Exotic spices like cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves are great in tea. Chai Tea is loaded with this combination of spices; but it’s not the only tea blend that uses these aromatic and tasty ingredients. Homemade Spice Tea—sometimes called Russian Spice Tea, gets its name and taste from the cloves and cinnamon it contains. It makes a delicious Thanksgiving gift for the tea lover in your life.
The recipe is quick and easy to make (takes about 10-15 minutes once the ingredients have been assembled). As a tea enthusiast, I’m always looking for new tea recipes to try and sample. Here are two recipes for homemade spice tea that I’ve cherished over the years. They make enough for approximately 24 servings each.
Basic Hot Spiced Tea Recipe
1 ½ cups Tang®
½ cup sugar
½ cup instant tea
1 tsp cinnamon
½ tsp cloves
Airtight container
Plastic bags
Using a whisk, mix all ingredients together in a bowl. Pour into a single airtight container, or spoon several servings into small zip variety plastic bags. Place these into little muslin bags or wrap plaid silk or taffeta around them. Tie with bright colored ribbon and attach a small dessert spoon.
Alternative Spiced Tea Recipe
1 cup instant tea
2 cups Tang®
1 1/3 cups sugar
½ tsp cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup lemonade mix
Add a festive decoration to the Thanksgiving dinner table by placing a packet of Homemade Spice Tea at each place setting.
