Yixing Clay Teapots

yixingI’m so into teapots—of all kinds. Yixing Clay Teapot are fascinating. They are renowned for their unique artistry and practical usage. Yixing teapots are made from the clay of the Yixing Chinese province and have the unique ability to absorb the tea’s aroma and flavor with continued usage. The fired clay contains tiny air pockets which provide insulation and enhanced taste and aroma of fine tea.

For centuries, Yixing Clay Teapothave been known to be the best vessel for brewing tea. Although many Yixing clay teapots are purple colored, you can find other colors based on the pigments added to the clay before firing. They come in different shapes, sizes and designs. Each pot is handmade so the textures and patterns will vary from piece to piece.

It is recommended that only one type of tea be used since the Yixing Clay Teapot soaks in the richness of each tea made in it. Ah, I can’t wait to brew Earl Grey Crème Tea in it. I will use my Yixing pot specifically for this tea.
