It’s important to use the proper amount when making fresh gourmet coffee, and while this may vary from person to person, using just ENOUGH (the E in FRESH) will produce great tasting coffee every time. Here are a few tips to help you select the right amount.
Practice the Golden Rule of Coffee
The golden rule of coffee is to use one tablespoon of freshly ground coffee for every 8 oz. of water. If this is too strong for your taste, reduce the amount; and if it is too weak, increase the amount of coffee. You should experiment until you’ve determined when the amount is ENOUGH for you.
Buy Only ENOUGH Coffee for a Maximum of two Weeks
Buy only the amount of roasted coffee you’ll need for two weeks because roasted coffee loses its flavor and becomes stale when it sits for longer than two weeks. Caution should be exercised when considering coffee-of-the-month clubs, especially if the coffee is old.
Buy Only Fresh Coffee and Make Sure It Stays That Way
Check for freshness every time you purchase coffee beans or ground coffee. One of the worst things you can do is to buy great fresh gourmet coffee and then not store it properly. Remove your coffee from the bag and store it in an airtight container away from light and dampness.
Using the proper amount of fresh gourmet coffee may mean that you will have to brew coffee several times a day; but it will be well worth it!
