Naturally healing teas and tisanes must be carefully brewed in order to reap their healing benefits.
Simple infusions made from herbs and plants can soothe and restore, and be steeped and enjoyed for better health.
Here a few tips to keep in mind:
Cut leaves, flowers and herbs should not be boiled.
For a basic tea or infusion, use either one teaspoon of a dried herb (2 teaspoons fresh) to one cup of water. Double the recipe for a pint and quadruple it for a quart, etc.
Unless otherwise indicated in a recipe, steep the tisane or infusion for 10 minutes, and strain into a jug or pitcher with lid before serving.
Use only china or glass for brewing and storing–NO METAL, plastic or Teflon-coated tea ware.
Although most tisanes taste great cold, hot infusions cause the production of sweat and are good for treating the common cold and flu.
Freshly brewed naturally healing teas and tisanes can be stored in a refrigerator for up to 3 days.
