Recipe: Iced Viennese Cream Coffee

fresh coffee, Viennese coffee, iced-coffee, gourmet coffee, espresso, half-n-half, vanilla bean, whipped cream, brandy, cinnamon, chocolate shavings, blender, ice creamThere are lots of recipes for making iced gourmet coffee, and since I love the stuff I have tried many variations. Here is my version, which is great for spring nights and reminiscing while lazily sipping through a mound of whipped cream to the sweet taste of Iced Viennese Cream Coffee.

It can be made with or without alcohol and if you’re on a diet, don’t bother to try it. This gourmet coffee drink is very rich and fattening.

You owe it to yourself to try it once and then if you must substitute non-fat, unappetizing ingredients…well…go ahead.

Iced Viennese Coffee Recipe

1/2 cup freshly brewed extra strong espresso
1 cup half-n-half
1 scoop of vanilla bean ice-cream
1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp whipped cream
1 tbsp brandy or rum
Cinnamon, sprinkle to taste
Chocolate shavings
Blender
Ice cream soda glass

Make fresh coffee by grinding the beans on the espresso setting. It’s important to brew the espresso extra strong for delicious gourmet coffee flavor. Make sure to do so ahead of time and place in a refrigerator until thoroughly chilled.

Pour the fresh coffee, half-n-half, vanilla bean ice-cream, vanilla extract and sugar into a blender and mix until smooth. The mixture will not be as thick as a milk shake, but it will have a velvety texture. If you prefer a thicker drink, then add additional scoops of ice-cream and blend it once more.

Pour the mixture into an ice-cream soda glass. While stirring gently, add the brandy. Rum can also be used. If you prefer a non-alcoholic drink, add 1 teaspoon imitation brandy or rum flavoring to the mixture while it is blending.

Top with whipped cream and dust with cinnamon. You can use a cinnamon sugar mixture if you like your coffee extra sweet. End with a few chocolate shavings on top. Serve immediately.
For more than one serving, double, triple or quadruple the recipe as needed. For guests with a sweet tooth, place individual sugar packets by each glass just in case.

Don’t be afraid to experiment and “doctor it up” with your own special ingredients.
