According to researchers at the University of Arizona, lemon peel, a good source of calcium, potassium, and Vitamin A, is believed to reduce and prevent certain types of skin cancer. Drinking lemon peel tea by itself or in green tea was found to have more than a 70% reduced risk for skin cell carcinoma.
Drinking one cup of hot lemon peel tea 30 minutes before meals several times a day will not only lower skin cancer risk; but also aid in digestion and help prevent stomach irritations.
Directions for Brewing Lemon Peel Tea
Lemon peel tea can be somewhat tart; but honey or other sweetener can be added to taste. Follow these directions to make a cup of lemon peel tea.
- Coarsely chop the peel of a fresh lemon that has been washed.
- Add one teaspoonful to 8 oz cup of boiling water.
- Steep for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Remove large pieces of peel and serve.
Adding lemon juice to green tea can also increase the amount of antioxidants available for the body to absorb and help to reduce the risk of skin cancer as well as heart disease.
