The fukusa has seams on 3 sides and is folded on one side. This folded side is called the ‘wasa’. This wasa is important to note when folding the fukusa.
Chashaku Bamboo Tea Scoop
The chashaku, or wooden spoon, is used to scoop powdered matcha tea from the tea container to the tea bowl. Are you measuring your matcha with a metal spoon? The Japanese Tea Ceremony Chashaku Bamboo Tea Scoop’s elegantly curved shape is specially designed for the fine matcha powder, and measures the perfect portion of tea. Use a chashaku and taste the difference that the perfect portion makes.

I wouldn’t mind getting a bamboo teaspoon for measuring regular tea beyond just Matcha. Bamboo is an ideal material in my opinion for all things tea-related. Even bamboo cups are a good idea for drinking from. –Spirituality of Tea
