Rooibos Tea, commonly called red tea has some great health benefits. High in antioxidants, this caffeine-free tea helps to slow the aging process, treat allergies, and minimize kidney stones. Rooibos tea gets its name from the African red plant or bush from which it is harvested.
Found exclusively in the Western Cape region of South Africa, Rooibos Rooibos Tea has a naturally sweet and nutty taste. It’s great to drink with lunch or in the afternoon, and is served best with milk (although you can drink it plain). You can create your own favoite blend by using Rooibos rea along with another tea of your choice.
Red Espresso and Other Drinks
Rooibos Tea is prepared the same way you would black tea, but the longer it steeps the more it tastes like coffee. Imagine that—a tea that tastes like coffee. Actually many coffee shops in South Africa have begun to serve “red espresso”, “red lattes” and “red cappuccinos”, which are actually concentrated forms of rooibos served the same way you would ordinary versions of these drinks when made with coffee.
Experiment with your own versions of these drinks. Use the same equipment and process you normally use when making a pot of coffee, espresso and cappucino. All you have to do is substitute Rooibos tea and remember to steep for 12 minutes to bring out the coffee-like flavor.
