6 Ways to Celebrate Mother’s Day with Tea

Mothers are very special people and Mother’s Day was created to celebrate and appreciate motherhood. It’s a special day for mothers and should be different from other days.

One of the most memorable Mother’s Day celebrations I’ve had to date is when my daughter graduated from college. Her university always holds its graduation ceremonies on Mother’s Day in order to honor those mothers who have sacrificed and loved their students through four hard years of post secondary education.

The thing that was unique about that day is that my daughter represented the third generation in my family to graduate from that university, and yes…all three ceremonies were held on Mother’s Day; so you can see that this was special indeed.

Now before you start wondering what all of this has to do with tea, just let me tell you that of course we held a tea party as part of the festivities (any excuse will do, let alone one like Mother’s Day); and now, as we prepare for yet another Mother’s Day, I’m reminded of six ways to celebrate that will create lifelong memories like the one I’ve just shared.

Tea Breakfast in Bed

How many times have you been served breakfast in bed? Mothers LOVE breakfast in bed because they don’t get it very often. Why not plan a Tea Breakfast of delicious floral flavored scones, Double Devon Cream, strawberry or peach preserves, and a pot of Twinings Lady Grey Tea.

Purchase a decorative tea tray or cover a cookie sheet with a clean cloth kitchen towel. Use the best china—plates and cups and saucers, cloth napkins and silverware. Pick a small bouquet of flowers from the garden or buy one beautiful rose to place on the tray. Add a Mother’s Day card and serve.

Pampering for Mom

There are many ways to pamper mom, and two of the most relaxing ones are relaxing in a tea bath, and washing mom’s hair with herbal tea shampoo.

These pampering suggestions really show how much you care—especially if you draw the bath water and create a spa atmosphere with soft background music, fluffy towels, terry cloth robe and slippers along with scented candles and soap! Mom will be especially surprised if you let slip the fact that you made the shampoo yourself!

Movies and Tea

I love old movies and especially the Jane Austen classics. You can always count on seeing a tea party or afternoon tea scene or two. My two favorites are Pride & Prejudice and Sense & Sensibility.

Rent a few DVDs you know your mom would like and brew a pot of gourmet or herbal tea to sip while watching. To add to your mom’s bliss, sit down and watch the movie with her!

Tea Shopping Spree

Take your mom shopping for tea—not just an ordinary visit to the mall, but an adventure similar to a treasure hunt. Do some advance scouting and check out mall stores to see which ones carry tea and related items.

Plan to take your mom only to these stores and directly to the sections where tea items are found. Before leaving home, give your mom a special sack or shopping bag to use on the shopping spree.

At each store, make recommendations that you have previously and carefully reviewed and pre-selected. At the end of the shopping spree, your mom will have completed the purchases you planned to include in a special Mother’s Day tea gift basket.

Tea Room Visit

Reserve tea-for-two or for the entire family at the local tearoom or a five-star hotel in your city. Dress up for the occasion and let mom bask in the elegance of having someone serve her Afternoon Tea.

Keep the conversation light and the smiles plentiful. Just sit back and watch her relax, enjoy and spend time in the moment.

Nightcap Teatime

Finish off mom’s special day with a Tea Nightcap. Brew a cup of soothing Teavana Tranquil Dream Herbal Tea.

This tea is designed to promote a better night’s sleep and will calm mom’s nerves, relax her mind and body, and relieve any aches and pains (especially if she went on the mall tea shopping spree). Give her a goodnight kiss and tuck her into bed just like she used to do to you.

Consider trying more than one of these activities for Mother’s Day, and the ones you don’t get to do, save them for another day. After all, you can celebrate Mother’s Day every day of your mom’s life.
